When we think of our existence on Earth, we must understand the harmony in co-existence with all living beings on Earth. As we cannot live without water, soil, plants, insects, birds, animals, forests, rivers, oceans and fellow humans, we must develop solutions to preserve the nature and biodiversity. Primarily we need water, food, environment, health, energy and right understanding about co-existence to live at peace and happiness. This is our work area!

Water

Our primary need is water, similarly plants and animals also need water as their basic need. Water is vital to all life on Earth. As humans could not rightly understand the importance and purpose of water in their life, it’s been misused and exploited to the maximum. And today potable water is a luxury, not every human or animal gets it. Future will be further worse. What could we do with our finest evolved human brain to address this most important problem?

Food and Farming

Fertile soil leads to fertile life. Soil fertility is important to keep the human fertility intact. Top soil loss and fertile soil loss lead to decrease in cultivable soil area. Toxic chemicals, genetically modified seeds, monocrop cultivation and less chance for rejuvenating the soil in the absence of cattle are main reasons for devastation of soil. Change in farming leads to change in food and further change in human generations.

Environment

We are mentioning the natural environment here. Oxygen parlours are the extreme example to understand the effect we have created on our environment. Urbanization, industrialization destroyed the good environment and human’s greed further fueled it to create highest damage possible. This brings climate change and our focus now should be on adapting the effects of climate change and mitigating the factors which aggravate further emissions.

Energy

Crude oil to coal mines, humans have gone too far in depleting the natural resources. Forest life, coastal life, tribal life, mineral ores, rivers and oceans, city landscapes, all are damaged in the name of development. Any development needs energy. We are even using the dangerous nuclear energy to produce electricity. By 2035, global energy demand is projected to grow by more than 50 percent and even more in developing countries. Renewable energy should become our way of life right now.

Health

Both physical and mental health is important for a human being to stay healthy. Our present lifestyle brings lot of physiological and psychological problems, even reproduction has become a toughest process. Malnutrition, deaths in young age due to lifestyle diseases, mental disorders and increasing number of special children birth are all alarming.

Inclusion of Sustainability

Every institution has its own process and strategies. Irrespective of the field, inclusion of sustainability in their process is possible at various levels. These institutions have proper infrastructure, team, funds and significant goals to reach. If we could include the idea of sustainability in their process, the results will be better in the long run leaving resources to utilise for the future generations to come!
